Inspector Ajay lives with his widowed mother in a city in India. He has been assigned the task of bringing in notorious bandit and gangster named Cobra, who has been terrorizing and killing people all over India. He does succeed in arresting him, and holds him in a cell, only to find out that he is insane, and must be institutionalized. Thereafter, Ajay awaits Cobra's treatment so that he can proceed with his investigation. One day while his mother packs his lunch, he finds out that it was poisoned, it did not affect him, but it kills another colleague. His mother, relieved to find out that Ajay is alright, is more concerned about Cobra, who was also sent some food. Ajay is baffled as to why his mother would feed a senile criminal, and he sets out to find out why. The truth will devastate him, make him lose his job, and change his outlook on life forever.

Chetan is a photographer who lives with his friend, Pyarelal, in Versova, Bombay. While on an assignment, he photographs beautiful Sonali near the Bombay Airport. When they return home, they find a backpack in the back of their truck, and on opening it, find it belongs to Sonali. Chetan falls in love with Sonali and starts to woo her as Pyarelal. But his charade soon comes to an end when Sonali finds out that he has been lying to her. An incident involving her redeems him in her eyes and both fall in love with each other. Than Sonali's mom, Dhanlaxmi, returns from America with a man named P.K. Roy, his wife, and son, who she would like to get married to Sonali. Since Chetan is not wealthy, Dhanlaxmi rejects him, and forces her daughter to re-locate to their Jaipur house where she plans to go ahead with the marriage. The question remains what can poor Chetan do to himself a suitable candidate for Sonali, and how is he ever going to convince Dhanlaxmi to change her mind about him.

Employed as a News Reporter with 'Azad Kalam' Amar Kumar, who is heavily in debt as well as months behind on his rent, exposes the conditions in Doleria Housing Complex, and is invited by the owner, Sonadas Doleria, to Delhi. Once there, the latter offers him employment in either U.S., London or Paris as a Public Relations Agent but he refuses and returns home by an Indian Airlines flight. This trip turns out to be eventful as he meets two males, Johnny and Tikam, gets invited to a party, and shortly before the flight lands, the person, Sevakram, seated next to him, is found dead. Amar attempts to patch up with his estranged girlfriend, Asha - the daughter of Barrister Rameshchand - and both decide to attend Tikam's party. Amar does not know that the police want to question him as a suspect as they now have evidence that Sevakram was murdered, and before this incident was on the run after stealing Rs.4 Lakhs - an amount which is not traceable - but believed to be in Amar's possession.
